"Be the change you wish to see in the world"

The Caskey Family Foundation has vowed to create systemic change within the Detroit Public School system by funding 100 Microsoft Surfaces for students at the Detroit Lions Academy that would not have been able to use this technology in the past.
During the recent Covid-19 pandemic, students have been forced into being schooled at home and there were students within the Detroit Public Schools that did not have access to the technology needed to get the most out of their education.
To get the most out of their education at home, students need access to technology to receive proper visual learning via Zoom / Teams / WebEx and other online formats.
Some DPS students were left trying to learn subjects such as algebra by calling into the classroom via a voice call and listening to their teacher, instead of being able to see the teacher demonstrate the skill being taught. This was on top of the possibility of their sibling needing to use the same phone at the same time to call into their classroom.
To create change, sometimes the smallest and closest to home change is the best way to start. Kayla and I have been blessed to be connected thru the Detroit Lions to the Detroit Lions Academy, and with the DLA being a part of the Detroit Public School system, we felt this was the best way to create change within the system and hopefully be able to help some of the other schools in the future.
Detroit Lions Academy is an Alternative Middle School with a unique program that operates under the Detroit public school system. . Their program provides an opportunity for over-age students to get back on the path to success in order to reach high school graduation by offering smaller classroom sizes and individualized instruction. On average the school has around 100 students that attend from all parts of the greater Detroit metropolitan area. These students are eager to learn but life circumstances have left them behind academically.
Each Microsoft Surface that will be donated will have a cost of $665.64. The Caskey Family Foundation is looking to raise approximately $70,000 to accomplish the goal of supplying the Detroit Lions Academy with 100 Microsoft Surfaces. This number will include order and delivery charges.
