In Memory of Bob Caskey (1939 - 2022)

Robert “Bob” Caskey, 82, of Mount Vernon, Texas, passed into the loving arms of our Lord on Monday, March 14, 2022.

Bob was born in Kingsburg, CA, on November 15, 1939, and graduated from Gonzales (TX) High School in 1958.  He then attended the A&M College of Texas on a football scholarship and was a proud Aggie Class of ’62. During the end of his high school years as well as his time at A&M, he served 6 years in the Texas National Guard. He also went on to earn his Master of Education degree from Texas A&M University in ‘70.

Bob served in the Texas public school system for 30 years as an assistant and head football coach as well as a high school principal. He also spent one season as an assistant college football coach at Texas A&I University, winning a NAIA National Championship in his one season in Kingsville. Bob had a tremendous love for teaching and mentoring kids. He also volunteered his time coaching little league baseball for many years.

Bob married the love of his life, Judith Ann White, on January 1, 1977. Bob and Judy both retired to a small piece of land, with a pond, outside of Mount Vernon, TX in 1999. Bob was a life-long member of the Church of Christ as well as the Association of Former Students at A&M. He loved the outdoors and was happiest when he was outside tinkering in the garage, playing golf, and mostly while watching the Texas Aggie football team.

Bob is preceded in death by his father and mother, Leonard and Ruby Caskey, along with his older brothers Thomas and Wallace ‘Bud’ Caskey and a half-sister Mary Lynn. Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Judy, three half-sisters Caroline, Paula & Sellie, son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Terri Caskey of Grapevine, TX, daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Jarvis Simmons of Callisburg, TX, son and daughter-in-law Kyle and Kayla Caskey of Baton Rouge, LA, grandsons Thomas K. Caskey of Grapevine, TX, and Olsen, Kolten, and Beauden Caskey of Baton Rouge, LA.

Bob’s family will receive friends at the Horn-Nail-Haggard Funeral Home in Daingerfield, TX, from 5 to 7pm Thursday, March 17, 2022. Funeral services will be held at the Church of Christ in Daingerfield, TX, at 10am on Friday, March 18, 2022, with Pastors Tim Gibbs and Mark White officiating. Family graveside services will be held at 11am, Saturday, March 19, 2022, at the Florence Cemetery in Florence, TX.
